Ahead of World Book Day this term, KSA were delighted to welcome professional YA author Alexandra Sheppard to talk about her journey in becoming a writer. Her books include ‘Oh My Gods’ a story about a young girl figuring out her pathway being half-mortal half-Greek God as well as ‘Happy Here’, an anthology of 10 amazing Black Authors and Illustrators. She has also co-written with Ashley Banjo and Jordan Banjo of the world-renowned dance group Diversity. Not only did she give some wonderful tips for our aspiring young authors, particularly in our smaller Q & A section but she also helped to judge our creative writing competition. Year 5 and 6 wrote some incredibly creative pieces inspired by the title ‘Superpower’ and the winner along with a story from a talented Year 9 student will now be read by a professional screenwriter for Netflix. Alexandra also spent time individually talking and reading through the graphic novels made by library enrichment students via industry-leading design, with this medium becoming very popular within the publishing industry. We’re now very excited to pre-order her new book ‘Friendship Never Ends’ after the buzz created amongst the children.
