Our approach
PE at KSA
At KSA, we recognise that Physical Education is far more than just a subject – it's an essential part of every pupil's journey, helping to build confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love of physical activity. We offer every pupil the opportunity to take part in an exciting and diverse range of sports, both during and after school. Our PE programme is designed to inspire, challenge, and motivate students to reach their full potential.
A Wide Range of Sports & Activities
Our PE department offers an engaging timetable packed with a variety of sports and physical activities. Whether your child is passionate about football or trying a new sport for the first time, we have something for everyone. In addition to the regular curriculum, students can participate in:
- Football
- Basketball
- Cricket
- Badminton
- Table Tennis
- Tchoukball
- Multi-sports
- Fitness Classes
In addition, our after-school programme provides pupils with the chance to get active, improve their skills, and explore new interests. Many of these clubs are run by our dedicated PE staff or external professionals, with older students – including our sixth formers – often supporting sessions, sometimes as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award. This provides invaluable leadership opportunities and fosters a sense of community.
Competing
For students with a competitive spirit, KSA provides exciting opportunities to represent the school at a range of local and regional sporting events. We compete in the Westminster Sports League, where pupils from KSA go head-to-head with other schools in the area, showcasing their skills and sporting prowess.
In addition to the Westminster league, we also compete in a series of ARK network competitions across the year, bringing together students from multiple schools in the ARK network to compete in a variety of sports. These events foster a sense of community, healthy competition, and school spirit. From football and basketball to athletics and beyond, our students have the chance to compete at a high level and represent KSA with pride.
Be Part of the KSA Legacy
At KSA, we celebrate not only the winners but the growth, effort, and determination of every individual. Whether competing in team sports or taking part in fitness challenges, every pupil has the opportunity to make their mark and contribute to KSA’s rich sporting tradition. From first-time competitors to seasoned athletes representing the school in regional events, our pupils gain experiences that will last a lifetime.
Activity:
At KSA, we believe in the power of structured play and the importance of fostering creativity, social skills, and a love for learning through engaging activities. Activity Time is a dedicated 30-minute session during the middle of the school day, designed to provide pupils with the opportunity to explore various fun and educational pursuits. The session runs on a carousel alongside lunch ensuring a balanced and enjoyable midday break.
Activity Time is all about fostering creativity, developing new skills, and making sure every pupil has fun while staying active and engaged. It’s an exciting part of the day that helps every student find their passion, whether it's on the sports field, in the art studio, or through the power of debate.
Pupils have a choice of a range of activities each term. Some of the exciting and diverse activities on offer include: Football, Basketball, Board Games, Art, Giant Chess, Spike Ball.
In Middle School, punctuality is key. If a pupil is late to school in the morning, they will unfortunately forfeit their Activity Time and will instead attend a detention. Pupils participating in sport-based activities must bring the correct footwear to take part.
The Structure of Enrichment: 3 Core Strands
At KSA, we believe that enrichment should serve as both a rewarding experience and a purposeful way to develop key skills. Our enrichment programme is structured around three core strands: Innovate, Connect, and Unite. These pillars are carefully designed to reflect our core values and encourage students to become well-rounded individuals, equipped with the skills needed for success both in and outside of school.
1. Innovate (Arts and Technology)
This strand is all about creative innovation and artistic expression, giving students the opportunity to lead the way through their creativity. Whether through drama, music, art, or technology, students are encouraged to explore new ideas, develop unique talents, and push boundaries in a supportive environment. By embracing creativity, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills that are vital in today’s world.
Linked to our value: "Lead the Way"
Examples of Innovate Activities: Art, Drama, Film Study, Photography
2. Connect (Community)
The Connect strand focuses on building a sense of community, fostering kindness, collaboration, and connection between students. Whether it’s supporting younger students in the junior school, gardening together, or engaging in a debate, students develop empathy and understanding as they work alongside one another. This strand encourages pupils to form meaningful connections with their peers and contribute positively to the school environment, reinforcing the importance of community spirit.
Linked to our value: "Be Kind"
Examples of Connect Activities: Junior reading support, community gardening, school newspaper
3. Unite (Health and Wellbeing)
Unite is centred on promoting health, wellbeing, and sportsmanship. This strand provides students with the opportunity to engage in team sports, fitness activities, and experiences that promote physical and mental health. It encourages pupils to work together, supporting one another in a team environment and learning the importance of unity and collaboration. By developing resilience, teamwork, and leadership in sports, students gain skills that will benefit them for years to come.
Linked to our value: "Work Together"
Examples of Unite Activities: Badminton, martial arts, basketball, dance
Clubs at KSA
At KSA, we offer a diverse range of after-school clubs designed to cater to the varied interests and talents of our pupils. Whether it's sports, creative arts, or academic enrichment, we encourage all our students to participate in at least one club during the school year, though many of our pupils also engage in activities outside of school.
We understand the importance of ensuring all students, particularly those who may not have had as much access to extracurricular activities in the past, have the opportunity to join a club. To support this, we open the termly booking form early for families of pupils eligible for Free School Meals, allowing them to book 50% of the available places a week before the general sign-up begins.
Club Sign-Up Process
In the first round of club sign-ups each term, families will be able to book their child into one club per week. This ensures we can offer as many students as possible the opportunity to join. After one week, if there are still places available, parents will have the chance to book additional clubs for their child.
Year 1 to Year 9 – After-School Sign-Up Requirements
All students from Year 1 to Year 9 who wish to attend any after-school club must sign up via the booking form. This ensures clarity about who is in the building after school hours. Pupils cannot simply attend clubs without prior registration.
In Years 7 to 9, if a pupil receives homework catch-up or detention on a day they have a club, they will be allowed to attend their club and complete the catch-up or detention the following day. This is allowed once per week, so if a child is signed up for multiple clubs, they will need to select one as their priority club for this special arrangement. Pupils on Prep or Internal Exclusion will not be allowed to attend any clubs.
Cost of Clubs
All of our after-school clubs are free of charge! We’ve restructured the club schedule to run within contracted staff hours, allowing us to offer this amazing opportunity at no cost to families. However, please note that while the clubs are free, they should not be considered a reliable After-School Care option. Clubs can be cancelled or changed if necessary, and we may ask parents to collect primary pupils at the normal end-of-day time.
If you require reliable After-School Care, we offer a paid option at YYS. To book this service, please email parents@kingsolomonacademy.org.
Collection from Clubs
YYS (Younger Years Site)
Children attending clubs at the YYS should be collected from the Lower Playground at 3:45 pm on Mondays and 4:15 pm on Tuesdays to Fridays. If a child is not collected on time, they may be removed from the club for the rest of the term.
OYS (Older Years Site)
If your child is in Years 5 or 6, please collect them from the Main School entrance foyer on Penfold Street between 4:45 pm and 4:55 pm (Tuesdays to Fridays). If your child is not collected on time, they may be removed from the club for the remainder of the term, and the cost (where applicable) will not be refunded.
Secondary pupils (Years 7-9) are permitted to leave the site independently unless you notify the school otherwise.
