As a school we are monitoring the risk posed by the spread of Coronavirus. We are regularly seeking up to date guidance from Public Health England, the department for education, the local authority and Ark schools.
The priority in terms of public health is to limit the likely spread of the disease. We will follow all guidance given to us to support the wider public health concern, whilst also acting in our school to try and limit any risk.
There is no suspected cases of Coronavirus linked to the school, but we remain vigilant and provide an update today so that as parents you can be aware of the school’s response. Please be assured that if there are any significant changes we would inform parents rapidly.
Advice and Guidance
The most relevant guidance can be found, and is updated regularly at:

Returning from abroad
We updated parents last week about the importance of reporting immediately if they have returned from travel from affected countries. Please follow the guidance below:
If you have returned from these specific areas since 19 February, you should call NHS 111 and stay indoors and avoid contact with other people even if you do not have symptoms:
- Iran
- specific lockdown areas in northern Italy as designated by the Government of Italy
- ‘special care zones’ in South Korea as designated by the Government of the Republic of South Korea
- Hubei province (returned in the past 14 days)
If you have returned from these areas since 19 February and develop symptoms, however mild, you should stay indoors at home and avoid contact with other people immediately and call NHS 111. You do not need to follow this advice if you have no symptoms.
- northern Italy (anywhere north of Pisa, Florence and Rimini)
- Vietnam
- Cambodia
- Laos
- Myanmar
In either case you must also immediately contact the school.
In school response
We will look to implement the advice from all relevant authorities. Following the increased number of cases in the UK, and the change in risk from Public Health England from low to moderate, the school will be implementing some temporary additional strategies to try and limit the risk of infection being spread.
Informing parents
We will be communicating regularly with parents by email and text message to ensure all parents are aware of guidance and the school’s response and can support the school.
Ensuring clean hands
- We are ensuring that regular handwashing takes place. This is through handwashing with soap (where there is easy access to this) or through handsantizers. This includes on entry into school
- The formal handshake between staff and pupils is suspended.
Educating pupils
It is important that pupils understand the risk presented by Coronavirus and what is expected of them to reduce the risk of infection. Pupils will be spoken to by their teachers and posters are available for pupils to refer to. We do also want pupils to not be overly worried or panic, and so will be educating them with age appropriate language and guidance. Please support us by encouraging your child to focus on good hygiene but also to continue to focus on their learning.
If you have any concerns or questions please speak to please speak to a member of staff or contact parents@kingsolomonacademy.org

Government advice on the spread of Coronavirus
Public Health England has changed the advice for individuals who have travelled recently. If you have travelled from Wuhan or Hubei Province to the UK in the last 14 days you should immediately:
- stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu
- call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the area
- please follow this advice even if you do not have symptoms of the virus.
Travellers from other parts of China and other specified areas. This advice applies to travellers who have returned to the UK from the following areas:
- Elsewhere in China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Macau
If you have returned to the UK from any of these areas in the last 14 days and develop symptoms of cough or fever or shortness of breath, you should immediately:
stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu
call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the country
Encouraging good hygiene
As always, if you have symptoms of a cold or flu, then there are measures you can take to stop germs:
- always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
- wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
- avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
