Naturehood for our Neighbourhood
Pupils at King Solomon Academy have had wonderful opportunities to participate in an array of outdoor, environmental themed workshops through an Environmental Education Project called ‘Naturehood for our Neighbourhood'. The workshops, along with all the resources, have been made available through the Neighbourhood Keepers Programme, funded by Westminster City Council in association with the Church Street Futures Group. Its aim is to create positive, healthy activities for the benefit of the local community as part of Church Street’s regeneration.
Many pupils from Nursey to KS3 have participated in the workshops delivered by Decibel and Alex – the Environmental Educators. The project has also provided family workshops, to support home/school learning, as well as engage teams of local corporate volunteers who have helped with the maintenance and development of the Egyptian Garden, located on the right as you enter our school’s main entrance.
Our lunch time ‘drop in’ and Naturehood after school clubs are very popular.
Pupils at King Solomon Academy have thoroughly enjoyed the activities and have learnt so much about growing organic food and plants, the beauty of being out in nature and learning from our natural environment.
This project started in June 2018 and will be funded until July 2020 at both King Solomon Academy and Ark Paddington Green, and will continue to provide all pupils with outdoor, nature-themed workshops. We are extremely grateful to have these opportunities.
