On Friday 17th January our Year 13 Economists attended an insight day with Ark Academy and BDA economists at communications industry regulator Ofcom. The day was spent gaining an insight into various issues in the communications industry that apply to microeconomics including the market failures of fake news and Love Island, monopoly power with BT Openreach, designing auctions for the sale of the 5G spectrum and consumer protection from exploitation by mobile industry oligopolies. The students had a great day out at the HQ by the river Thames and returned with some great practical examples of competition policy ot use in their A level exams
