Support & guidance

What does support and guidance look like for pupils at KSA sixth form?

Sixth form is a really exciting time in your educational journey and we are here to support you and guide you through the whole process from GCSEs to university and beyond. You will have many questions along the way and there will be plenty of things which you might be tempted to worry about. We’re here to make it easier for you!

Induction

Sixth form study is undoubtedly very different from GCSE. We want to know that we are all 100% ready for our AS courses from when we first arrive back in September so we run a two day induction so you feel confident about what to expect. You’ll find out more about how KSA sixth form runs, have some taster sessions with your A level teachers.

Tutoring

Your subject teachers are your key points of contact for all things curriculum but you will also each have a personal tutor who will guide your pastoral route through the sixth form. They will check in with you each day, help you manage your workload as well as any other worries, and support you through the UCAS process. Many of you will also benefit from one-to-one tutoring through The Odysseus Project.

University Preparation

We have 2 hours a week timetabled to focus on University Preparation. This is a time for us to come together as a year group or in your tutor groups and plan and reflect on key events, trips and workshops as well as important decisions. It’s also a time we use for inviting in guest speakers such as politicians, journalists, scientists, artists and writers and hosting debates.

Guidance Meetings

Each Sixth Former meets with Miss Al-Hariri, our Exams, Careers and Universities Coordinator, once a half term. These meetings are designed to support students in the important university and careers decisions they are making and signpost them to information, guidance and events they cna get invovled in during their time at KSA.

Careers Support

As well as University Preparation sessions, we provide plenty of opportunties for students to find out about different careers including workplace visits, careers fairs and visits from employers. A particular highlight of the year is all of our Year 12s visiting the BP Head Office to network with BP employees from a range of careers, including engineering, law and finance.

Sixth Form Facilities

All sixth formers will have access to study hall, ICT facilities and a range of texts in our library. You can also make use of our sports facilities, drama and dance studio as well as our music and music technology suites.
