Behaviour

Our school benefits from a disciplined environment, where pupils treat each other and their teachers with respect. We hold our pupils to high expectations, which we manage through a consistent approach to behaviour. Central to this approach is the use of positive rewards, thus encouraging our pupils to behave in a thoughtful and sensible manner at all times. However, if pupils decline to meet our expectations for behaviour, they will miss playtimes and in key stage two, they will be kept behind for detention.

Attendance

All pupils are expected to be ready, in class, for registration at 8.30am. Parents should be ready to pick them up from class at 4pm sharp. If a pupil is unable to attend school due to illness or other circumstances, parents should contact the School Office on 020 7563 6900 (option 1), before 8.30am. On a pupil’s return to school following an absence, we ask for a short note outlining the reason for the absence, and if the absence is longer than five days, a doctor’s certificate is required.  All holiday requests must be made at least two weeks prior to the holiday being taken. Authorisation for absence can be granted at the headteacher’s discretion, depending on individual circumstances; however, as our school supports the view that every day and every lesson counts, such absences will normally be refused. Uniform

Our uniform policy reflects our values and reinforces our school’s culture of high expectations and academic achievement. Our school uniform is important to us as it is a way in which we identify ourselves as a school family and it promotes a strong, cohesive school identity which supports high standards and expectations in all areas of school life.  Please ensure all clothing and property is clearly marked so that lost articles may be easily traced and returned.

For health and safety reasons, we recommend that all shoes should be sensible and that the only jewellery worn is as follows:

  • one wristwatch
  • one pair of stud earrings (girls)

To avoid accidents, if a child is wearing more jewellery than this they will be asked to remove it and it will be returned at the end of the school day. The school cannot accept liability for the loss of expensive jewellery.

Homework

Completing homework is essential to the success of individual pupils and the classroom community. It gives pupils the opportunity to extend their learning and to reinforce what has been learned in class, as well as being part of a child’s learning which parents can support directly. Pupils will have daily English and maths homework, increasing as they progress through the school.

Home School Agreement

Pupils, parents, teachers and support staff all sign a ‘Commitment to Achievement’ contract. This is a joint promise that all of us will put in the time and effort required for our children to succeed.

E-Safety

E-Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at King Solomon Academy. We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work together with parents to ensure the E-Safety message is consistent.
