Year 5 Maths Experience Day

On Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th July Year 5 were visited by Multiplex, one of the largest construction companies in the UK. The children learnt about the various ways maths is used in day-to-day work by the different men and women in the company, including scale drawings for architects and massive spreadsheets for quantity surveyors. The workshops culminated with each pupil designing their own skyscraper and creating a poster explaining maths' importance in the real world.

The workshop opened a lot of children's eyes to many interesting jobs in engineering and urban development, and it was great to see them apply their learning in a context that is all around them!
